LM CREW ANNUAL MOTHER’S DAY CAR WASH and BAKE SALE
WE DID IT
WE BEAT LAST YEAR’S PROFIT BY $28.63!!
athletes, coaches, parents:
Thanks to everyone who helped! We had parents bringing in car after car-(even though rain was in the forecast). We also had parents buying (back) cookies (they had just baked). There were some moms lugging filthy wet towels home to dry and return (and borrow their neighbor’s dryers, too). We had “traffic directors”, money “hustlers”, baked good/candle sellers. On Lancaster Ave. , we had 2 “sandwich boards” painted by a LM Crew parent and “live” advertising by some very lively athletes We had photographers. We had parents who took time to speak with people waiting for their cars to be washed.
We had pizza, wraps and hoagies PLUS plenty of water delivered for all of the volunteers—and generously donated by 2 families. When the food came, the athletes swarmed and devoured the lunch. Some patrons watching laughed and commented about the sight.
We had Steve and Ryan show their business skills by selling baked goods while people waited in line. They were SO GOOD at hustling that they even got paid to eat some cookies!!
The athletes showed lots of energy and enthusiasm and some patrons didn’t want to leave!! One woman was seen standing by the gas station, eating pizza, watching the athletes wash cars long after hers was finished. One mom came with her young daughter and said, “I’ve never been down to the races but I’m coming on Saturday to cheer for you all”. A former Commodore of LMHS came to wish the team well and talk about “old times”.
An athlete was overheard exclaiming (while battling the hose with a teammate), “This is the best day of my life!” Another was seen leaving the car wash when her shift was over, only to return, after a shower and a change of clothes, getting right back into the wet suds. And, when the ambulance came in to get washed…well, the expression on the athletes was priceless! One athlete told me, “My shift was over 2 hours ago…I didn’t want to go home”.
When the car wash was over, athletes and parents stayed to clean up and load cars with hoses and sprayers, sponges and posters. We even had several parents volunteer to wash, dry and fold ALL of the towels (I don’t have ANY!!).
A “special” thank you to team Captains-Will, Ryan, Colleen and Ruth- for staying all day and setting such a good example for your teammates; Coach Brian- for helping to drive stuff home (including Aaron who wouldn’t fit in our car); Renee and Joey for help with publicity (etc), and Sharon-for everything else. Finally, and again, thanks to everyone who helped!!
